Workshops for Teachers

We have specially-designed professional development workshops for teachers to learn about entomological concepts and develop resources to use in the classroom.

Groups of 8 or more teachers are invited to contact The Bug Lab for more information on our workshops.

The workshops we currently offer are titled:

1. The Junior Entomologist - inspire your students to become Junior Entomologists.  This workshop shows teachers the various methods for catching and observing insects, linking concepts such as habitat, body parts and adaptations, protection and camouflage.

2. Cultural Entomology - insects influence our lives more than you know.  This workshop is an overview of some of the cultural aspects of entomology, both ancient and modern, and includes some stories, crafts and ideas.

3. The Literary Bug - this workshop links literature with entomology, including books, stories and ways to develop non-fiction writing skills in students.

4. Arachnids - this group of invertebrates are some of the most fascinating animals.  This workshop introduces teachers to spiders, scorpions, tarantulas, whipscorpions, sun spiders, and other arachnids.

Please contact The Bug Lab to arrange a workshop.  The Bug Lab also hosts teacher workshops throughout the year, including the provincial professional development day in the fall.  Please phone us for details of our next workshop at The Bug Lab, and/or sign up for the teacher bug club and receive periodic updates.

Teachers can receive a 10% discount on all Gift Shop merchandise by joining our Teacher's Club! Fill out our form and drop it off at The Bug Lab!
