The Bug Lab offers workshops for educators

Workshop Sessions (choose three of these options)Workshop sessions can be tailored to the age group of your students

The Junior Entomologist - inspire your students to become Junior Entomologists. This workshop shows teachers the various methods for catching and observing insects, linking concepts such as habitat, body parts and adaptations, protection and camouflage.
Cultural Entomology - insects influence our lives more than you know. This workshop is an overview of some of the cultural aspects of entomology, both ancient and modern, and includes some stories, crafts and ideas.
Arachnids - this group of invertebrates are some of the most fascinating animals. This workshop introduces teachers to spiders, scorpions, tarantulas, whipscorpions, sun spiders, and other arachnids.
The Literary Bug - this workshop links literature with entomology, including books, stories and ways to develop non-fiction writing skills in students.

General Outline of Workshop Day
(times can be adjusted, but must start by 12 noon and finish by 4:30 pm)

10 am Introduction to workshops, refreshments, introductions (10 minutes)

10:10 am Workshop 1 (50 minutes)

11 am Break (10 minutes)

11:10 am Workshop 2

12 noon Lunch (sandwiches, refreshments, sweets)

12:40 pm Workshop 3

1:30 pm Wrap up, questions and you are welcome to tour the museum and/or socialize and ask bug questions

Cost and details of teacher workshop programs

$30 (plus tax) per teacher
Minimum 8 teachers to hold a workshop
Workshop is 3.5 hours (including lunch)
Includes refreshments (coffee, tea, juice) and lunch (sandwiches, refreshments, sweets)
Workshops are held at the Bug Lab, in the presentation room
Includes craft materials for each teacher
Includes workshop handouts and classroom worksheets/materials
Participants receive 10% off merchandise purchases made on the workshop day
